Storyboard Text

  • I'm so excited for school to start. I've always dreamed of going to college and have worked so hard to make this happen.
  • I know. And WSU TC is the perfect opportunity for me. The average student age is 25, so there will be a lot of fellow Cougs who are in the same boat as me in terms of working full time while also attending school. Hey, what about you? I know you’ve worked really hard as well, aren’t you excited to start classes too?
  • I am. The opportunity to be the first one in my family to go to college is a dream come true. But I’m worried. I’ve got a two year old daughter and I haven’t figured out what I’m going to do for childcare yet.
  • Have you talked to Student Services yet? With almost two thousand students most of whom are working and have families, there must be an answer.
  • I haven’t yet. You’re probably right. I’m sure it will all work out.
  • Student Services
  • Hi. I’m a new student and I need to find childcare for my two year old so that I can attend classes and study sessions. Can you tell me about the options on campus?
  • Student Services
  • Welcome to campus, you must be really excited to get started with classes in a couple of weeks and we are excited to have you. Childcare can be a real struggle, and unfortunately, we don’t have childcare on campus, but here is a list of childcare providers in the Tri-Cities. I hope you are able to find something . . . . .
  • Hi, I’m starting classes at WSU TC in a few weeks and am looking for childcare for my two year old daughter.
  • I’m sorry, but all of our slots are full at the moment. We can put you on our waiting list if you like—the current wait time is about six months.
  • But I need to start classes. I can’t wait six months.
  • Sorry. You might need to call around to some other service providers.
  • Hi, I’m starting classes at WSU TC in a few weeks and am looking for childcare for my two year old daughter. Is there any chance that you have some open slots?
  • I just made my rent payment and tuition payment. I don’t have that much money. Is there a cheaper rate for part time care because I really only need care for the time that I’m in class?
  • How much is the deposit and the monthly fee?
  • That’s great. What do I need to do now?
  • Actually, you are in luck as we just had a cancellation.
  • You just need to complete our online application and submit it with the deposit and the fee for the first month.
  • The monthly fee is $1200 and the deposit covers the last month. So in total, we will need $2400 with the application.
  • But I don’t need care during that entire period. And on Thursdays my class doesn’t get out until 6:00 p.m.
  • Um, thanks.
  • I'm sorry, but there is not. We only have one rate and it covers care between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Sorry, but we just don’t offer less than full day options and our hours are not flexible. Have you thought about trying a private care provider—sometimes you can find people who take care of kids in their own homes. You might check Craigslist.
  • What am I going to do now? I guess maybe I can check Craigslist. I don’t really seem to have any other options.
  • Hi, I’m starting classes at WSU TC in a few weeks and am looking for childcare for my two year old daughter. I saw your ad on Craigslist. Do you still have open spots?
  • I do. Right now I only have 8 kids that I am watching, so I can definitely make room for another.
  • Eight kids? That seems like a lot. How do you manage that?
  • Really? O.k. What are the rates?
  • That seems doable. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your experience. When did you get your childcare license?
  • Oh, it's not that hard. Most of them practically take care of themselves.
  • $600 per month
  • Oh, I don’t really have a license. That really seems like an unnecessary hassle. I’ve been taking care of kids forever and rarely had any major issues. By the way, the rate needs to be paid in cash. And is your kid allergic to ferrets? Because my adult son has a hat making business in the basement.
  • I’m so excited. I just picked up my class schedule and textbooks. I can’t believe this is really happening.
  • I know. College. I can’t believe it either. The campus is so beautiful—I just can’t wait to get started. How about you, are you ready?
  • No. I’ve decided to put school off for a couple of years. I just couldn’t find any childcare options that would work. I guess I’ll just wait until my daughter is in school—I’m sure it will be doable then.
