Hi, I'm Jake and today, I'll be taking you through how to be careful online. The internet is a big place, and we use it for almost everything when being on a computer (or other device). But just because the internet is a big place, doesn't always mean it's always a kind place. You might get scammed or go onto a dangerous website and click on something where a hacker can remotely access you computer and steal valuable info. As I mentioned earlier I'll be showing you how to stay safe online.
Have you ever received an email from a website/company you know, saying that you have e.g. won something, even though you didn't enter a competition? This is most likely a scam, a scheme to usually trick into giving out your personal details.
Scams can also come through phone calls or text messages. Here are 3 tips to avoid scammers:
1. Scammers pretend to be a company you know. This way, they can gain your trust and use it against you. If you receive an email saying that something has happened but the site that sent looks different/suspicious, it is most likely a scam.
2. Scammers usually say that you have won a prize or owe money to someone and therefore ask you to verify personal details e.g. your bank account number.
3. Scammers try to put you under pressure to act immediately without thinking. They may also ask you to pay them money in a specific way. I hope these facts will help you avoid being scammed by these impostors.
