Storyboard Text

  • In this scene, Douglass is so tired, he collapses while working. This is because of the inhumane treatment and horrible expectations Covey has. Douglass was feeling light headed, dehydrated, and extremely tired when he collapsed..Later, when Covey arrives, he is expected to continue working! This part of the text, the rising action shows the terrible treatment Douglass and other slaves faced. In the rising action, tensions are high and some conflict happens: Douglass collapses.

  • Oh my god! He looks so sick..I hope Covey isn't too harsh.
  • I can't do this anymore...
  • This is the turning point of the text. Frederick Douglass experiences shock when Covey attacks him after being nice (less mean than usual) for once. When Covey tries to tie him up, beat him, and calls for other workers to help him beat Douglass in the barn, Frederick Douglass hits him back. He stands up for himself, and wins their fight. This is the turning point in Excerpt 4 which leads to Douglass' change in mindset.

  • That serves Covey right! And he thought I was going to help him!
  • How dare he try to tie me up!
  • This is the resolution of the text. This is the scene when things start coming together, and is like the ending of the plot. In this scene, Douglass feels like accomplished, and is proud of what he did. The climax really affects his mindset..he feels more confident, and like a man.

  • I'm happy I stuck up for myself..Covey will never lay o a finger on me ever again!
