  • Character v.s. Soceity
  • "I left the only home I knew," he said quietly." I left a wife and child behind.."Good luck on your journey to Canada...""I hope you find your freedom as well.
  • Character v.s. Character
  • "So! You've decided to honor us with a visit!" This mistress's face was red with heat or rage..."You're dismissed!" the woman said." Page 44
  • How DARE you go on a vacation!!!!!
  • Character V.S. Nature
  • "..and there in the doorway was a massive black head, the nose up and smelling, the tiny eyes bright with hungry anticipation."Don't nobody yell,"" she said softly.""Just back up slow and quiet to the ladder and climb up to the loft."" P.G. 1
  • This is when Ezekial explains why he left his home to go to Cand in order to be free in society. This scene explains Person v.s. Society because Ezekial represents as the character in this type of conflict and society is the opposing force because that is forcing him to be a slave causing him to be a fugitive, on the run to Canada.
  • Lyddie goes back to the tavern and gets basically fired by the mistress because Lyddie had a one-day break. This represents Person v.s. Person because Lyddie is right now getting opposed or yelled at by the mistress for what Lyddie had done, and in that scene is being represented as the "bad guy" because she is yelling at Lyddie.
  • Lyddie and her family were surprised by a bear entering their house. Lyddie stared down at the bear while she told everyone to climb the ladder. This represents this conflict of Character v.s. Nature because she and her family are the characters or the character in the conflict they are going "against" something of a natural cause A.K.A. the bear. The bear is considered an opposing force because of the fact that it is instilling fear in the family and when it goes away it creates havoc by breaking several parts of their belongings.
