  • EXPOSITION
  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • Once upon a time there was a king who had three beautiful daughters, with Psyche being the most attractive and her beauty makes other people unable to look away from her. Aphrodite, the goddess of love and fertility, was very jealous of Psyche as her beauty made people forget her and she asked her son, Eros to make Psyche fall in love with a repugnant creature. However, Eros fell in love with Psyche and did not complete his mother’s task without telling her.
  • CLIMAX
  • Psyche was sad because she could not fall in love and no one really felt in love with her. Feeling worried, her parents went to visit the oracle of Delphi to ask Apollo for advice but the prophecy was terrible as it states she should be brought to the summit of a mountain and stay there alone. While she was shaking and crying, she felt a slight breeze and was brought to a magnificent castle, the voices there made her certain that it was her loving husband and he would come at night.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • As time passed, Psyche felt sad and lonely as she couldn't see her husband's appearance, so she asked her mysterious husband for permission to invite her sisters to the castle. Her husband warned her to not be influenced, as out of jealousy after seeing the castle, the two sisters told Psyche that her husband must be the awful snake that the oracle of Delphi had told.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Psyche was influenced by her sister's words and decided to betray her husband, ignoring his words by lighting a candle at night to see who he was. She felt relieved and ashamed of her worries as the light did not show a monster but the most beautiful of men. However, a drop of oil fell, which causes Eros to leave their bedroom feeling heartbroken and never return.
  • Psyche, determined to win back Eros, embarks on a quest. She seeks the help of Aphrodite, Eros' mother, who imposes three challenging tasks on her. Psyche completes these tasks with the assistance of unexpected allies, proving her determination and love. However, Aphrodite remains displeased and heaps more challenges on Psyche.
  • In the end, the gods, witnessing the trials and tribulations faced by Psyche, intervened to heal the rift between Eros and Psyche. They then lived a blissful life in their enchanting palace, where flowers abounded. Psyche's journey earned her a remarkable gift from Zeus, making her immortal and allowing her to partake of ambrosia, the nectar of the gods. Even Aphrodite was content by Psyche’s love for her son and as her beauty was celebrated by humanity again.
