  • Rikki-tikki-tavi was a mongoose. He had been washed out by a flood that destroyed his home. A boy, Teddy, found him laying on the ground. Rikki-tikki was dazzed from the flood, he was half choked. The parents of Teddy brought him inside and dried him. After sniffing around for a while, Rikki-tikki ran outside to the garden. In the garden Rikki-tikki met Darzee, the tailor bird. Darzee told Rikki-tikki of Nag and Nagiana. Nag had eaten one of Darzee's eggs. Nag tried to distract Rikki-tikki, but it didnt work thanks to Darzees warning. Nagiana slithered just underneath him. After that, both Nag and Nagiana slithered away into the grass.Rikki-tikki was mad about the two cobras escape. He pondered about the two all day, until a tiny poisonus snake caught his attention. The small dust colored snake's name was Karait. Rikki-tikki fought the snake and won. Rikki-tikki resisted eating the snake to keep himself thin and prepared for the next battle. After dinner, the family went to sleep and once Teddy was asleep Rikki-tikki got up and wandered around the house. He ran into Chuchundra, the muskrat, creeping around the walls of the house.
  • Chuchandra was scared and broken hearted. They had never had enough spirit to go into the center of the room. He was very scared and fearful of Rikki-tikki and everything around them. Rikki-tikki and Chuchandra talked to eachother, Chuchandra warned Rikki-tikki that Nag was everywhere. He told Rikki-tikki that he should have talked to his cousin Chua, the rat, in the garden.Chuchandra hushed him and hold him to listen closely. Rikki-tikki heard the faint sound of snake scales on brick-work. He ran to Teddy's bathroom and eavesdroped on Nag and Nagianas conversation. Nag was unsure at first but after some persuading by Nagiana, he agreed to the plan she had. Rikki-tikki pondered on what he could do, he decided to wait. An hour later, while Nag was asleep, Rikki-tikki came up with a plan and creeped up slowly. He pounced on Nag, biting his head and hanging on as long as he could. Nag woke quickly and started flinging himself left and right, up and down, trying to get Rikki-tikki off him. A loud sound like a thunder crack went off. It was the big man, he had fired off a shotgun. Rikki-tikki was dizzy and felt shaken into 40 pieces. He woke the next morning and ran to talk to Darzee. Darzee was singning a triumph song about Rikki-tikki.
  • Rikki-tikki yelled up at him and asked him to stop singing. After many tries, Darzee finally stopped singing and told him where Nagiana was and where her eggs were. Rikki-tikki asked Darzee to distract Nagiana so that he could get to her eggs. Darzee was timid but thankfully his wife was much brighter than he was. Darzee's wife flew off to distract Nagiana while Rikki-tikki ran to Nagianas den. Once he got to the den he began to destroy the eggs. He had destroyed all the eggs but one and he carried that one egg all the way to the room where Teddy's family had breakfast. Nagiana was close to Teddy's leg while his parents watched with great fear in their face. Rikki-tikki got Nagiana to turn around and once she saw the egg she came toward it no longer having a chance to harm Teddy. Rikki-tikki had tricked her, and they would fight till Nagiana got close enough to the egg and darted. She moved quickly as she ran for her life. Rikki-tikki followed her and down into the den they both went. They fought in the den as Darzee sang a song of sadness thinking Rikki-tikki would die. As Darzee got to the saddest part, Rikki-tikki pulled himself out of the den covered in dust and dirt. Rikki-tikki had won, he had killed Nag, Nagiana, and their offspring. Snakes would not bother Teddy's family or the garden while Rikki-tikki was there.
