The ancient Mesopotamians lived in the fertile crescent. that area is marked in green. On one side of their border there was the Zargos Mountains and on the other there was desert. They were surrounded by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Ancient Mesopotamians were polytheistic which meant they worshipped more that one god. They worshipped in a type of temple called a Ziggurat. Some Mesopotamian gods were Anu, Enlil, Enki, Ninhursag, Nanna, Utu, and Inanna.

Some achievements were the Sumerians invented the wheel, irrigation, cuneiform writing, the plow, bronze, the calendar, and the domestication of animals.

Hammurabi created the first set of written laws called Hammurabi's Code. They are a set of 282 laws that talk about things such as marriage, slavery, theft, and business. They had the type of government called a monarchy. That means that they had one king that controlled all.
