- Women would often give food to the soldiers as well as cook for them. They would also provide a bed for the soldiers if not needed in battle at that time. They did this even if many of the soldiers were rude or provided inappropriate commentary to them, pushed the women around or even abused them.
- Women would also open their home to wounded or sick soldiers from the war. They would provide warmth, food, or any other item like medicine or dressings for their wounds. The women would take in as many as they could no matter what condition they were in and still got pushed around after the fact of healing the soldier's.
- Wives would often take over their husbands job, if the husband would go off to war. They would do this to provide for their families/make money or their husbands jobs needed to be filled. They would accept their husbands jobs no matter what job even though got paid a subsequently less than their husbands.
