- Brodie and Alex rode away safely to meet up with their mom and dad who were waiting for them on the Riverview dock. when they to the dock they started to head home. When they got home Brodie had to get stitches on his chin. After he got all fixed up Brodie went to his room. Barely awake, he heard a whisper from Alex. he soon after realized that Pauline did not make it.
- Chapter 13
- Brodie woke up and heard his parents talking to some man. He got out of bed barely able to move and slowly walked down the steps to peak at who they were talking to. At first, he thought it was a cop so he kept quiet. He wanted to speak to Brodie but his mom said he was still sleeping. He then heard his breathing and started to converse. he asked about the incident. after he left the doorbell rang and Otis's and Pauline's towels were on the porch but nobody was there
- Chapter 14
- In chapter six, they called Raoul (a cop) to come and talk to them and to see how everything is doing. He brought a towel that was yellow. He opened it up and said these were Pauline and Otis's. Brodie's mom picked up a flip flop and said "That poor girl." Soon after a swarm of people arrived at there door. Raoul said they will look for Otis as long as they can.
- Chapter 15
- In chapter 10, Brodie's dad decided to go to visit Pauline's parents in the hospital while the kids stayed home. Brodie felt bad about all the blame that had been put on Otis. Meanwhile, Alex was interested in going to Mrs. Rand's house because the news people were there. Brodie stayed home and decided to bury Pauline's flip flop in his garden. Raoul came to his house to ask if he was in the water when the incident happened, and Brodie lied.

- In chapter 11, Alex came home and said that Brody missed a great performance. When Alex was talking about it, he offered a drink to Brodie's family. Brody was scared in the way his mom and dad were looking at him. It made him tense up. Brodie's dad asked if he wanted to give a Eulogy at Pauline's funeral. He said no because he would feel too emotional to talk about her. Alex got a phone call from his mom that he thought didn't matter.

- Mr Stage came over in the late afternoon to tell the boys that they are letting people from El Camino go to the toadstool and put flowers there for Pauline. Then the boys said that they think it is a good idea. They went to the rock and brought flowers. Shortly after, they found out that Otis was dead in the weeds.

- In chapter 13, Brodie had to go to Pauline's funeral. At her funeral, he was crying and filled with emotion because he knew what happened. Pauline's mom was in a wheelchair. When the funeral was over, Brodie and Alex went up to Pauline's mom and said sorry.
- When Brodie and Alex were walking home from the funeral, Hanna called to say wait up. When she caught up, she asked if Brodie wanted to go and see the bats. Alex left to go watch the X-files. At the cave, Hanna pulled out her binoculars and gave them to Brodie to see the bats. When he had the binoculars, he realized it was her that saw the accident.
- In chapter 15, Brodie's mom and dad told him that they loved him and would always forgive him for what he did. Brodie was relieved that he did not have to keep it a secret anymore and have the pictures in his mind. Brody asked his dad if he would always stand by him.
