- The 1st Continental Congress
- Only one thing united us our love of liberty and hatred of tyranny
- We are here to bring delectates from most of the British colonies on the North American continent.
- The 2nd Continental Congress
- The delegates agree. We unanimously elected Washington to be commander in chief of the new Continental army.
- We the Congress need to create a “Continental army” made up of troops from all the colonies.
- Battles of Lexington and Concord
- I must admit whoever looks upon them as an irregular mob, will find himself much mistaken.
- Because of you 49 of our people are dead and 41 wounded.
- In September 1774, some 50 leaders from 12 colonies met in Philadelphia. The meeting brought together delegates from most of the British colonies on the North American continent, so it was called the First Continental Congress.
- John Adams of Massachusetts had another idea. He proposed that Congress create a “Continental army” made up of troops from all the colonies.
- That’s a bad idea you will never know what might happen. What if a fight breaks loose? How will that be handled?
- “Blows must decide whether they are to be subject to thiscountry or independent.” In Boston, General Gage, the king's commander ofBritish troops in America, got ready to deliver those blows.
