  • Ordinary World
  • The Call to Adventure
  • I'm sorry but you have ovarian cancer.
  • Oh my!
  • Refusal of the Call
  • An ordinary family in Wesley Chapel, Florida
  • Meeting with the Mentor
  • March 18, 2015, mother was diagnosed with a mass on her ovary. I am faced with the diagnosis and whatever treatment the doctor orders.
  • Crossing the First Threshold
  • I wasn't sure what I would do, I was really scared because I didn't know whether my parents were telling me everything about how she felt. I was also afraid to lose my mother to cancer. I wasn't clear as to what this would mean making me more fearful.
  • Tests, Allies and enemies
  • To calm everyone, my dad called a family meeting, In this meeting he talked about what would happen next. He also discussed how the diagnosis would affect our lives.
  • The first step was that mother needed a surgery. Before the surgery, she promised that she would let us know if everything was fine and be totally honest. This increased my confidence and drive to help my mother through the process.
  • Although the surgery was successful the pathology report showed that mother needed chemotherapy, this was during summer vacation.
  • Approach the Inmost Cave
  • The Supreme Ordeal
  • Reward - Seizing the Prize
  • YESSSSSSS!! IT'S OVER
  • I wondered how mother would respond to the chemotherapy and how it would affect our family. I was also concerned about whether we would really have a any kind of summer vacation at all.
  • The Road Back
  • During chemotherapy mother was faced with the difficult side affects of the treatment such as losing her hair, being tired often, and trouble sleeping. Mother often felt nauseous, and most of all the fun things we used to do together we could no longer do because of her physical condition. Despite all of the challenges, I supported my mother and didn't complain throughout the process
  • Threshold Crossing - "Resurrection"
  • The day we had all been waiting for, September 16, 2015! The day mother had her last chemotherapy treatment.
  • Return with Elixir - "Freedom to Live"
  • I am regaining confidence that mother will be fine, everyday she gets stronger. She started walking and she spends less time in bed.
  • After the last chemotherapy treatment mother's blood test showed that she no longer had cancer. I realized that I didn't need to be worried anymore, she was going to be fine.
  • Despite all the bad things I've heard about cancer, through this experience I discovered that with faith, good doctors, and a positive attitude, we can get through the most difficult of circumstances.
