Short introduction to the pig operations at Buckland and why our pigs are so awesome!

Storyboard Text

  • Title page - either still of pigs or short video of pigs.
  • Buckland Farm Pigs: Healthy, happy, foraging ... and tasty!
  • Video: Eric outdoors in one of the pens.
  • Hi, I'm Eric and I work in the sustainable pig operations at Buckland Farm. I'd like to introduce you to our pigs and what makes them so special ... and tasty!
  • Still: photos of pigs (maybe winter shots of Blinkin, Winkin and Nod)
  • We start with healthy, heritage breed pigs, a mix of Tamworth and Gloucestire Old Spot, both breeds which are smaller, sure-footed in the woods and prized for their taste and fat content.
  • Closing screen #1:
  • See -- and taste -- for yourself! Visit us at Buckland Farm.
  • Still: Mother and piglets nursing or hanging out in the barn.
  • We manage our pig operations by selecting our best sows and most robust boars to breed the healthiest piglets, which are first raised in our barn to provide the highest amount of care, attention and socialization.
  • Still: Shoats/teenage pigs in the woods. (With mom or without)
  • With a healthy start in life, the weaned pigs are moved into a woodland pen where they can forage most of the year, adding natural nutrient-rich dirt, forest plants and delicious finds such as acorns to the diet we feed them. As you can probably guess, we keep their feed free of hormones and antibiotics.
  • Still: Eric standing next to a market pig, for scale.
  • So, now I'd like to introduce you to the size pigs we have. Our most popular pig is what is called a market pig, or as we often call them, "a family pig," as this is the size pig most families or small groups of friends by either as a whole or half pig. A typical weight for such a pig is 225-250 lbs live weight, which translates to about 170-180 pounds of meat.
  • To buy a pig or set up a visit, contact us at buckland793@gmail.com or at 814-784-9956.

  • Still: Roasting pig on a spit.
  • Our whole roasting pigs are available in a range of sizes from X to Y pounds. Families, event planners and small groups are our most common customers for roasting pigs.
  • Still: Feeder pigs.
  • For backyard and small farmers, we sell feeder pigs and breeding stock piglets.
  • Still: Big pig, Eric standing next to it for scale.
  • And for sophisticated customers, chefs and restaurants who know how to handle four-, five- or six-hundred pounds of pig, we sell that too!
  • Video: Eric on camera with some cooked bacon ... takes a bit! :-)
  • So, as you can see, with our heritage breed pigs, our health and wellness-focused breeding program and ethical pig operations, our pigs lead good lives and our pork quality is superb!
  • Video: Continuation or diff scene: Eric on camera.
  • We have an open farm policy and we encourage you to come see where how your meat is produced. I'd like to invite you to come to our farm, meet our pigs and enjoy a tasty lunch or bite to eat with us!
