Quarantine was introduced and people would isolate if they were infected. Towns' borders closed and visitors from infected areas had to leave and if they didn't, the townspeople would chase them out. Nobody visited each other's houses.
Let's go to Europe!
The people of the Middle Ages believed that the plague was a punishment from God because they had sinned. Churches organized many more masses and confessions. People also donated to the church. Flagellants went around towns whipping themselves, hoping that god would remove the plague if he saw them punishing themselves.
The streets are so very quiet
Many cures were attempted and all failed. The picture above shows a cure that sadly failed; people survived the black death if the buboes went away so buboes would be softened with butter and onion before being cut open with a knife. Covering noses with flowers was also something they tried. as well as burning sweet smelling incense.
The Black Death came from India and China. Merchants unknowingly carried the plague into Europe whilst selling their produce.
Symptoms were sudden onset of fever, headache, chills, weakness and swollen and painful buboes
