Storyboard Text

  • The earth from far awayEvery Saturday morning, we run downstairs to the television. Just as the theme song from The Big Blue Marble begins, the four of us sing along: The earth's a big blue marble when you see it from out there. Then the camera is zooming in on that marble, the blue becomingwater, then land, then children in Africa and Texas and Chinaand Spain, and sometimes, New York City! The world close enough to touch now and children from all over right in our living room! Telling is their stories. The sun and moon declare, our beauty's very rare...The world - my world! - like words. Once there was only the letter J and my sister's hand wrapped around mine, guiding me, promising me infinity. This big blue marbleof world and words and people and placesinside my head andsomewhere out there, too.All of it, mine now if I just listenand write it down.
  • I chose this poem because, I thought it was a good poem that represents the earth. It compares the earth to a marble, saying that the earth is one small marble in a giant container with lots of other marbles. It says that there are many different places with different kids, different foods, different cultures. Jacqueline says in the poem, "The world - my world! Once there was only the letter J and my sister's hand wrapped around mine, guiding me, promising me infinity." To me this means that when she wrote the J she felt as though she count write it an infinite amount of times. And the part after that, "This big blue marble of world and words and people and places inside my head and somewhere out there, too. All of it, mine now if I just listen and write it down." It's saying that all those people and places are all her's if she just writes it down on a piece of paper.
