- First of all, plastics are synthetic polymers of great versatility, durability and low manufacturing cost, which is why they are widely used in the industry, since they allow us to have quality items at a reduced cost.
- At the end of their useful life, when these plastics are recycled correctly, they can be transformed into a new article and generate almost no waste.
- So what's the problem with plastics?
- The problem occurs when we begin to massively manufacture single-use plastics, such as bottles, bags or straws, and these are not recycled correctly or are not recyclable, as happens with some masks.
- As you have seen, it is very important to recycle plastics correctly, and failure to do so brings with it terrible consequences, which is why we must create international laws on the collection and treatment of plastics.
- Yes, it has become clear to me how important it is for us all to carry out practices such as rejecting, reducing, reusing, recycling or reintegrating, so that our plastics do not end up contaminating the environment, and thus we keep our planet green and clean.
- These microplastics can absorb toxins such as lead, zinc or antibiotics, producing immune reactions, cellular damage or inflammation in animals and people who ingest them, without being aware of it, since due to their size they are practically imperceptible.
- In some less developed countries, such as Ecuador, microplastics have been detected in mountains near large populations, even in some drinking water networks.
