Storyboard Text

  • One major theme of "The Monsters Due On Maple Street" by Rod Serling is that mankind is its own worst enemy. For example, when Steve tried to calm the residents down about this problem, but everyone went against him. This supports the theme because, everyone was already panicking and didn't think about what he was trying to do for him(pg. 76) Another example is, all the residents finally turned to each other physically and started to cause major violence to one another. So, this is helpful because, this idea shows that almost everyone took it really personal and started fighting which wasn't gonna be helpful to the problem (pg.85) Lastly, the aliens at the end were talking with each other on how humans are their own worst enemy when it comes to problems like this. This clarifies that the aliens agreed with the theme by saying it similarly to how humans can be their own worst enemy and how they handle problems. (pg. 86)All in all, this story could be made up with one of the major themes of that themselves can be their own worst enemy.
