Storyboard Text

  • You look tired, Wolfgang. Are you feeling well?
  • Ludwig, I have not ... Perhaps, it's old age.
  • Nonsense. You are only 14 years older than I.
  • Do you ever feel tired of it all?
  • What do you mean?
  • I mean here we are. Both of us were paraded by our fathers as young children - starting around six years old - playing for the aristocracy.
  • Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed entertaining the courts and the responses I received as a child. Things have changed. I no longer enjoy entertaining.
  • I loathed playing for the arrogant fools of the courts as a child. Aristocrats are no different than you and I. They act like they're our puppet masters -- telling us what to do and how to do it.
  • I've written symphonies, operas, and chamber music under their direction and for their entertainment. I no longer want to be a puppet!
  • I don't know how you have accomplished all of that, Wolfgang. Just writing one symphony seems like a monumental task for me ... probably taking me years to compose.
  • Ludwig, you underestimate yourself. As I've told my wife, "Keep your eyes on him, someday he will give the world something to talk about.".
  • The world? They find your dissonant notes and attempts to change music distasteful.
  • Perhaps you are right.
  • I want to change music also. I desire to add feelings to my music but how can these unfeeling aristocrats feel anything? I do not think the world is ready for us.
