Storyboard Text

  • Hello! My name is Bobby and I would like to tell you about a very interesting time in French history called "The Reign of TERROR!"
  • People that were in the third estate, or middle to lower class, were fed up paying taxes to the rich, who didn't pay taxes at all. So, the third estate revolted causing many individuals in the first and second estate to flee France.
  • The clergy and nobles who fled were called "emigres." They were sad and scared of the radical revoluntaries who attacked their persons and lifestyle.
  • The revolutionaries were called Jacobians and they wanted change. They abolished the monarchy, which is when a King rules the land, and created a new legislative body called the National Convention. The National Convention then set out to destroy all taces of the old order.
  • They weren't messing around, either. They were so fed up with King Louie XVI that they executed him. Then they executed Marie Antoninette.
  • We're not taking it anymore!
  • This led to the "Reigh of TERROR." Sounds scary, right? Well, for certain individuals in France, it was a very scary time. During the Reign of TERROR around 300,000 people were arrested. 17,000 of those individuals were executed. It felt like no one was safe.
