  • The story of Gina's birth undoubtedly brought me to tears. I felt sympathy for her parents knowing the difficult journey that laid ahead of them, when it comes to raising a child with a life-threatening illness.
  • Gina's illness may be considered a disability to many, but her family views it as something special, allowing for a tremendous impart in awareness of her condition, and helping future special needs students.
  • Gina's story made me question myself and future techniques I could use as an educator. Family involvement plays a major role, and incorporating them into the classroom would be beneficial.
  • Parental support is crucial when working with special needs students. Aside from office hours where I could personally meet with parents, it's a great idea to involve them in the classroom, since they know their children better than anyone.
  • Interactive lessons make the classroom more fun and accessible, as we saw with Gina's aqua therapy and tricycle riding. These could be incorporated into my classroom as well!
  • I feel truly inspired after reading/hearing about Gina and Nikki's story. I look forward to all the ways in which I'll be able to make my classroom for accessible for student with special needs!
