Man vs. Man- Brian's mom is in the car with another guy in a station wagon. Brian had saw his mom with the man, but she didn't see him and neither did the man. On page 30 it says, "She was sitting in a station wagon, a strange station wagon." "Short blonde hair, the man had. Wearing some kind of white pullover tennis shirt."
Man vs. Self- When the pilot had a heart attack, Brain had to take over. He was trying to maneuver the plane from what he remembered and read. The text says, " He turned back in the seat, facing the front, and put his hands-still trembling- on the control wheel, his feet gently on the rudder pedals. You pulled back on the stick to raise the plane, he knew that from reading."
Man vs. Nature- Later on after everything, Brian followed birds, which led him to a raspberry bush. Brian was overthinking to see if he should eat them or not because the other berries he had ate made him throw up. Brian realized they were safe to eat it; he and Terry used to pick them at the park. Page 69 says, "These he knew because there were some raspberry bushes
