  • The French Revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799. This was a time when the commoners of France stood up against the Monarchy.
  • Tennis Court Oath
  • I guess we have to write a new constitution
  • Major economic problems arose in France, which in turn raised taxes and prices of goods. New ideas of how to govern were brought up as leaders failed to do their jobs correctly. This made resentment grow among the lower classes.
  • Storming of the Bastille
  • The Estates General meeting was a gathering of representatives from each estate of France. They were gathered to approve a new tax.
  • The Great Fear
  • The Third Estate now renamed the National Assembly broke down a door to a tennis court in the Palace of Versailles. They stated that they will stay until a new constitution is written for France.
  • King Louis sent troops to wipe out the National Assembly, so the National Assembly decided to arm themselves with weapons, They broke into the Bastille looking for gunpowder. They took control of the Bastille and killed several guards.
  • The First Estate were hiring criminals to torment peasants. This spread and a wave of panic spread throughout France. This led to the peasants becoming criminals themselves.
