Finally finished reading In Search of April Raintree...Thought it could be relaxing, but it makes me relate to myself and...now I feel confused.
What is the Red River Resistance? What is the Northwest Resistance? How can I know more about my Métis family?
Hey mom. I am so lost. I know I have never asked about my grand-parents' hometown Manitoba, but I am now eager to know. I guess I am having difficulties in knowing who I am.
Don't you worry, darling. I will tell you whatever you want to know. But remember it will take time. When your father and I were young, we both struggled to figure out and balance our identities. It is no easy thing, but you will manage it.
I feel I'm a lot like April in the book, but I don't want to go through all the pain she went through before making peace with who I am. I don't want to pretend to ignore that I am a Métis anymore.
Isn't it something valuable of the book? The protagonists experience multiple possibilities for us, and inspire us to find a productive way for solving our own problems.
You are probably right. I am really more motivated to learn about métis culture. Why don't we visit museums or plan a family trip together? I do look forward.
As you wish, darling. We can talk with your father and decide together.
Great! By the way, thank you both for this birthday present. I did enjoy reading it. It was not so relaxing as I expected, but it made me think a lot.
My pleasure, as long as you like it. But do not forget to thank your father again later. You know, he can be jealous ;D
