  • "I shot more birds than anybody else!" Charlie declared
  • "alright Charlie we'll tell Chief Phillip so that he gives you more than anybody else!" David said
  • The boys were in Pimento Walk. They were hunting for birds.
  • The boys were collecting the birds when Johnny heard noises. He leaned his head on one side and seemed to be listening.
  • "Do you hear something ?" Tommy asked.
  • ..Johnny whispered one word, "People"
  • "Twenty", replied David.
  • "Let us be going now. You boys know where they coneys are. Watch out when you're getting to the village. The Redcoats are noisy enough and you shouldn't run into them.."
  • The first encounter with the Redcoats. The Young warriors decided to split up into 2's while Charlie stayed behind. Tommy and David went East. They hid into a thicket so that they would not be seen.
  • "Did you count how many soldiers there were" Tommy asked.
  • The Young warriors rejoined after the Redcoats left. Charlie forgot to pick up an arrow from the ground. One Redcoat soldier returned to scout the area. The boys quickly reacted and blended with the trees.
  • "I am so sorry" Charlie said-"I-I really thought I had picked them up. However, no harm was done."
  • "Oh no?" You only nearly got us all killed or captured," David said. "I don't know how you were made into a young warrior."
  • "It must be an old arrow. There's nobody here."
  • The Young warriors held a council to decide what their next move was going to be. They decided that Tommy and Johnny would run to the village to inform them about the Redcoats while Charlie, David and Uriah carried the game that was hunted back to the village.
  • "The trouble is we have these birds and the coneys. It will be hard for us to travel swiftly."
  • "I know. That is why I'm holding council. What shall we do?" Tommy asked.
  • The Young warriors were getting ready to separate into the agreed groups. Tommy and Johnny took off their bows and handed them to the boys. They were only left with their knives. They gave the Maroon sign for their farewell. They held the palms of their right hands up to their shoulder.
