In kindergarten, it is common for young kids to get sick. One week, almost everybody in my class caught the stomach bug (excluding me). Around 4 students threw up in the same hour, and it was total chaos trying to get us out of the classroom while another person was getting sick at the same time. To this day, that experience has caused me to be constantly cautious of someone around me throwing up.
ICU
Before I lived in Texas, I lived in a very small town with the population being almost fully composed of white people. I obviously experienced some racism there and some here in Texas, but the difference was that over there there was nobody to stick up for me. This has caused me to not be able to stick up for myself.
No Longer Human
A person that was close to me and affected me the most was my old best friend from Connecticut, Paige. She was nice and mean to me at the same time, and caused my ability to trust in people to be affected by the way that she would act like It was my fault whenever she hurt me.
A real-world person that affected me was my uncle. I was never very close to him, but it happened to be me who was sitting next to him when he died in the hospital. The last thing he said was "I see you." It stuck with me for weeks and I was trying to figure out what he meant since he was out of it in those final moments. I looked back on the pictures we took and I realized he was reading a sign, "ICU; intensive care unit." This experience taught me that some things aren't as deep as you may expect and it's okay to let things be.
An SSR book I read this unit that affected me was No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. The main character goes through experiences that cause him to feel as though he is no longer a human with how he feels nobody is like him. This had become a popular book as it brought people together realizing how much they relate.
