  • In the Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is violence doesn't solve problems. First, There was a dark figure approaching them in the dark so Don pulled out the shotgun to defend himself but Charlie snatched the gun away from him and shot the figure which he thought was the monster. The guy Charlie actually shot was Pete Van Horn and he just came back from checking if there was still power in the other streets. When Carlie saw that, he said, But.. but I didn't know who he was. I certainly didn't know who he was, . That ended up escalating the problem even more and nobody trusted each other after that. page 82-83 Next, after Charlie shot Pete Van Horn , someone jumped on top of Charlie and started beating him up” A man breaks from the crowd to chase Charlie. The man tackles him and lands on top of Charlie,” so that obviously didn't help solve any problems and also escalated the problem. Page 84. Last, after the man beats up Charlie,Charlie starts arguing with everyone saying that it's not him and he even starts grabbing people accusing them and someone even punches Steve in the face. “ a fist crashes at Steve’s face, staggering him back out of view. Several close camera shots suggest the coming of violence,”.Page 85. Violence doesn't solve problems is one of the main things in the story The Monsters are Due on Maple Street
