And by "today", I literally mean TODAY, like right after tech class on May 13th . . .
Hey JI232! Let me talk to you about how "Planned Obsolescence" came into my life today
So anyway, I just came back from giving Thor his walk, listening to some music on my iPhone
Thor
And today . . . my phone went dead. Like dead. Like it's black. Exactly like the way you see here.
This is my iPhone XR. I got it about two years ago (almost upgrade time)
Why don't you just go to Apple to get it fix? You might ask?
Yeah . . . confession.I broke the screen six months ago. And since I only had eight months left before an upgrade . . . I uh
got it fixed with a bootleg screen from Pacific Mall . . .
Yes . . . my dad already gave me the lecture already about buying bootleg electronics from Pacific Mall . . . learned my lesson about voiding warranties
Then again . . . My childhood was spent buying illegal bootleg movies from there with him so . . .
Anyways this phone pretty much useless to me right now
And getting another bootleg screen to fix it isn't feasible during lockdown
So, what's a man got to do. . . well, I guess it WAS time for a new iPhone . . . I like the iPhone 12 . . .
$1000
What I have experienced is "Planned Obsolescence"
My iPhone only lasted so long before it needs to be replaced . . .
As tech consumers, I think that needs to be something we are at least aware of . . . and maybe I could be a little more careful with my electronics
And now, I'm ready to run back to Apple and buy their newest iPhone12
. . . Thanks for reminding me, Appa
Anak, you know this wouldn't have happened if you just repaired it correctly
So today I learned that planned obsolescence means that electronics are becoming less durable but people are still willing to buy the newest and latest iPhone . . . yes that's me
And this contributes to excess e-waste . . . I know I should feel guilty about it . . . I swear I do
and not try to fix them with bootleg products . . .
