Well Mr. Macbeth i have been hearing many great things of you and you sound like the perfect candidate i need.
For this scene the king, Duncan is talking very highly of Macbeth. While this is going on he is thinking to himself he is going to be the next king

Yes i knew it was going to be me. This is going to be great
You two are both my greatest soldiers and you are both amazing. But it comes down to one. Malcom you are going to be the new king
It was supposed to be me. I was supposed to be the king. I was supposed to rule over everyone and help them.
For this science Macbeth’s dreams are crushed by Duncan. He decided to pick his son to be the next king after him.

I have to do something about this. I can’t let Malcom’s become king. I will not let fate decide this. “The prince of Cumberland - that is a step on which i must fall down.”
For this scene Macbeth said he is not letting fate decide his path. He is going to act on this decision by Duncan about who is becoming king.
