I am an American women's rights and voting activist, community organizer, and leader. in the civil rights movement. I am the co-founder and vice president of the Freedom Democratic Party, which I represented at the 1964 Democratic National Convention. Hamer also organized Mississippi Freedom Summer in conjunction with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). I was also a co-founder of the National Women's Political Caucus, an organization created to recruit, train, and support women of all races who wish to run for government office.
