  • Look at the atomic bomb we just made. It came out pretty good.
  • After Germany's head of state had committed suicide and their capital had fallen to Russia things went down hill. They didn't have much of an army left and they had little to no resources. They were losing battles left and right and really had no where left to go. So in return they surrendered.
  • Before the war had started the alliance between the USA and the Soviet Union was not the strongest. It was strained if you will. But as the war continued and Nazi Germany got worse and worse over time the two countries decided to put their differences behind them and make an alliance to defeat Nazi Germany because it was going to increase their chances greatly. Surprise! It was a good idea.
  • The Manhattan Project was the biggest scientific effort undertook by the USA to make an atomic bomb. It took many locations across the country to create this weapon. The Manhattan Project was even a code name for the operation to not raise suspicion. It was a very controversial topic but eventually we used these atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
  • The Manhattan Project decided that Hiroshima would be a good target to drop their atomic bomb on, so they were the first target. The bomb was dropped around 8:15 am and exploded 2,000 feet above the ground. Because the pressure of the blast was equal to 12-15 tons of TNT it destroyed 5 square miles of city. The bomb was nick named "Little Boy".
  • The sad events that happened in Hiroshima failed to make the Japanese surrender, so they targeted another location. This time being Nagasaki. At 11:02 am the "Fat Man" was dropped on the city being much more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima. It weighed around 10,000 pounds and was built to produce a 22-kiloton blast. The topography of the city limited the destruction to 2.6 square miles.
  • The surrender of Japan in WWII was a mix of things. Although the nuclear weapon was intimidating, Japan was more concerned about the Soviet Union entering the war. Japan was scared of the Soviet Union and now that they were their enemy they would not be able to take that. So they surrendered and claimed it was because of the bombs because that was "less embarrassing".
