- In France people were divided into three different estates. First estate was high ranking officials of the church, Privileged class. The second estate was nobles, privileged class. And the third estate was commoners from peasants in the country side to wealthy bourgeoisie merchants in the cites. The third estate was the one who payed the taxes for the higher estates.
- National Assembly & Tennis Court Oath
- The causes of it were king Louis XVI spent a lot of money on himself or building palaces. Queen Marie Antoinette spent a lot of money as well but on mainly dresses and fashion. France was also in bankruptcy because they lost the Indian and french war. Huge debt like that increased taxes on the third estate the second and first refuse to pay taxes.
- Radicals Take Over
- On May 5th 1789 King Louis XVI calls the Estates General representatives from all three estates to solve Frances financial issue. Each estate had one vote first and second estates could operate as a block to stop the third estate from having its way. The Representative from the third estate wanted the population to vote since they had the biggest.
- Rise of Napoleon
- King Louis locks the third estate out of the meeting. The third estate meets on the nearby tennis court they create the "National assembly" and the "Tennis Court Oath" vowing to establish constitution for France.
- A new group called The Convention takes over and abolished the monarchy. Louis XVI was beheaded on January 21, 1793. Marie Antoinette was beheaded on on October 16, 1793. Including 17,000 others.
- Napoleon Bonaparte comes to power through a coup d'erat-ending the ten-year period (1789-1799) known as the French revolution. Invades kingdoms throughtout Europe. Napolen starts making a name for himself as both a meitary leader and. as national leaders. He opens jobs based on talent.
