- The main conflict in this is the survival of the six remaining members of the planet Lorien. Having fled to the planet Earth after the destruction of their homeland, they become the protectors of the Human Race while attempting to evade their own destruction by the Mogadorian hunters.
- THE PROTAGONIST
- Six, Four and Sam are in a constant battle to evade capture by the alien race that destroyed their homeland and the authorities of their new home Earth. Along with Bernie Kosar, their companion who has the ability to change into many different animals, this is a never ending task of pure survival.

- Four is the primary character in the novel. He is strong, proud, intelligent and young. A round character who is developed well by the author, but continues to evolve as the story progresses. His traits allow him to be a dynamic character, who's first person account keep you interested and helps the story unfold.
- The journey of teenage Lorien's, whose only purpose is to survive their own destruction by the Mogadorians.
- "The water tickles my lungs, but at the same time satisfies every desperate need I have to breathe, and that's when I know I've discovered my second Legacy: the ability to breathe underwater" This brings a clear picture of Seven being underwater, but not drowning as one would imagine.
