  • According to these records, Vaughan was Bigheart's attorney, another victim of the Reign of Terror. He was supposed to pay Vaughan to file an agreement that would allow him to control his own money. Burt collected the money somehow. Bigheart and Vaughan were then found dead.
  • According to the National Archives, Burt started out as a farmer and became a successful businessman due to swindling from the Osage. It says here that Burt and Hale were associates and both obtained money from Bigheart's estate. Apparently, the FBI had never pressed Burt further but described him as a "murderer."
  • Burt also stole money that was intended for Vaughan. Maybe due to their friendship, Vaughan mentioned the hideout containing money and evidence for the Osage murders to Burt. In this newspaper, it says that Burt had boarded the train with Vaughan in Oklahoma City......the same train he was thrown off of!
  • Also, I discovered notes from a library in New Mexico that included an interview in which a town marshal of Fairfax stated that a mayor of one of the boomtowns helped Burt throw Vaughan off of the train.....I'm so sorry Martha.
  • *sobbing* No, it's a relief. This has been in my family for so long.
