what kind of person is Stella?
Stella is often very distant from other people, because she's hiding a huge part of herself and her identity. This is explained by "Lying, after all, was just a kindness. She lied to everyone. Her neighbors, her friends, even her husband. Especially her husband." (Bennet 169). Even though Stella isolates herself from others, the author wanted to show how draining and lonely life can be by living a lie.
