After running away, I saw my dog in the street on the way to the coffee shop!
Why were you running away?
Well I wasn't the one who ran away, my dog did!
Your dog was on its way to the coffee shop? Why would your dog go to the coffee shop?
I was the one going to the coffee shop, then I saw my dog, who ran away earlier.
Right, I couldn't understand you because there was a misplaced and a dangling modifier in your sentence, which made it sound incorrect.
What is a misplaced and dangling modifier?
However, a dangling modifier's intended subject is missing from the sentence.
A misplaced modifier is a modifier that is positioned too far away from the word it modifies.
In this sentence, it looks like while you were running away, you saw your dog on its way to the coffee shop. Which is incorrect.
So I should have said "On the way to the coffee shop, I saw my dog on the street before running away."
Thank you for teaching me about misplaced and dangling modifiers!
