- So most quartz forms in either igneous rocks or environments with geothermal waters.

- Also Slow cooling generally allows the crystals to grow larger. Quartz that grows from silica-rich water forms in a similar way.

- it is still made of quartz but the quartz has recrystallized during metamorphism
- filling in most of the pore space of the arenite with new quartz growth and becoming a denser, harder rock.
