Storyboard Text

  • Pathos
  • "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character (king)"
  • Ethos
  • Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.
  • Logos
  • One hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the segregation and the chains of discrimination.
  • Martin knew that every parents weakness is their children so he took advantage of that and used it for his speech to have peoples sympathy. No  matter what race, Martin knew that parents all think the same. Pathos was used to surface emotion,  which most public speeches don't have due to politics.
  • Pathos
  • I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
  • Ethos is being used as a positive energy. He mentions all the states that were pro-slavery and had issues, and how they could change in the future. Giving people hope that even after all issues, everything can be fixed.
  • Ethos
  • In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
  • Martin goes off about how even after 100 years, people of color still get treated horribly because of their race. Martins whole point in this paragraph that mentions how even after years later, everything has been improved but the racism has not. This gives people light about how long its been going on.
  • Logos
  • Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation.
  • Pathos was used in this area to make people feel like they are not alone. It makes people have hope and continue fighting for their rights. This is a inspirational quote that gave people strength and made them feel safe.
  • Martin does a good job at capturing peoples attention by mentioning a metaphor and mentioning guilt. Metaphors tend to  bring a lot of attention and the way he used it makes sense. Hes saying you cant gain freedom by being bitter and hating the other race who  did them wrong and to forgive them.
  • He mentions Lincoln and how he signed the emancipation proclamation back in 1863. Martin mentioned how Lincoln freed the slaves in rebellious states. That event was special due to a president finally sticking up for people of color.
