In the small town of Maple Street, Steve Brand polishes his car parked in front of his house. While his neighbor Don Martin is watching him. him. A Good Humor man rides a bicycle and is just in the process of stopping to sell some ice cream to a couple of kids.
Climax
Then the power goes out do to the meteor. Then Les Goodman attempts to turn his car on, at first it doesn't work. But then he gets out of the car and then the car turns on by itself.
Falling action
Les Goodman's abnormality of a working car gets the group to accuse him of being the monster. Steve's loud, powerful voice gets the group to stay a group and not transform into a mob. Les Goodman then reasons with them about how he didn't know how it started and how he's been living here for 5 years.
Resolution
Charlie and the mob see a suspicious silhouette, Charlie grabs the gun, previously armed by Steve. Charlie, in an attempt to protect the group and his neighborhood, he shoots the figure. And then realizes who it was, Pete Van Horn
After they realize what he's done, Charlie begins to feel immense guilt and says he didn't know who it was. The group insists that it's him after a light in his house turns on, then soon after everyone starts accusing everyone and the village self destructs, the shot pans out to two figures talking.
As the neighborhood's humanity is what destroys itself, the bias and prejudice is present. The setting is panned out to two figures talking. Seeming to be a different species of intelligence.
