- Ausable was given the case of capturing Lutkins. Ausable reached New Mullion ecstatic. Upon Reaching, he made his way to the station where he was surprised to find Lutkin's mother in tears.
- what happened ma’am? Why are you in such a ruined state?
- But Lutkin’s mother was no state to ans. Ausable looked at the inspector nearby, who immediately launched into the short story of possible death of the very man who Ausable was to arrest. They reached the crime scene late in the evening, upon ausable’s insistence.
- Humour me in this…if he is really dead why wasn’t his body found? And if he is not dead, as I believe so, where is he?
- So you’re theory is that lLutkins was undressing when someone arrived to kill him, which they did succeed in. And when they heard his mother they shoved his dead body through the window out into the open river? Did I get it right inspector?
- Yes sir.
- Pray ma’am what do you mean by that?
- The next day, just as Ausable reached the station,
- Mr.Ausable, Lutkins is alive!!!
- Today morning I received a letter in his handwriting along with his signet ring…
- Really? That’s wonderful news indeed… may I please read the letter?
- After a thorough examination of the letter, Ausable asked to see the man who was arrested the previous evening for committing Lutkin’s murder, just because he was the only one near his room at the time the murder was thought to happen. Ausable, astonishingly, got a bucket of water with a large sponge and made his way to the beggar and began scrubbing his face vigorously.
- A Little soap on a water sponge with fervent scrubbing gives you…
- All your questions will be answered in good time inspector. Now if you will excuse me I must serve this young man to the court before it becomes too late to be accepted as dinner at my hotel.
