- scene 9 - mini scene with only Mike and Inspector Thomas working on the case - Inspector Thomas makes comments about Otto which make Mike appear uncomfortable (hinting that he is the murder) - Mike being the murder was know all along as he would have been wearing a murder placard

- scene 7 - (at the end of scene 6 Ian receives a call from Janet saying that their son Otto has suddenly been taken ill this scene takes place in the hospital waiting room where they receive bad news from the doctor - the purpose of this scene is to show further the lives of the characters 'breaking down' and the perfect sitcom life becoming distorted

- scene 8 - an awkward dinner scene happens at Janet and Ian's house as they attempt to distract themselves from the ill health of their son. a fight breaks out between Janet and Ian, and the scene ends with Mike being the last person to see Otto before he dies later on - by this point their lives have all fallen apart and the sitcom feel has crumbled away
