  • Slide: 1
  • Our story takes place in a small town called Borillia, where a new co-ed baseball league has just been established by city council.
  • Yeah! Lets go sign up, Ella
  • Hey Jim! Did you hear about the new baseball league?
  • Slide: 2
  • This story follows the characters of Ella, a trans Indian women, Jim, a cis white man, Kate, a cis black woman, and Alex, a white non-binary person.
  • Hey Ella! Hi Jim!
  • Hey! Are you two signing up for the new baseball league too?
  • Slide: 3
  • I don't think so... I'm non-binary and I've never really felt like I fight in with male or female sports categories
  • I am!
  • Slide: 4
  • Wow really? I've never pursued sports before because people have questioned my gender, but now I think I'll give it a try!
  • Don't worry Alex! This new league allows people of any gender to compete
  • Slide: 5
  • And so the gang prepares for their first baseball practice with the Borillia Wolves
  • What position does everyone play?
  • Slide: 6
  • I like to play shortstop!
  • And I can play catcher. What about you Alex?
  • I can play outfield!
  • Slide: 7
  • I don't know, I haven't played much baseball, and my prosthetic arm might make it challenging...
  • Slide: 8
  • What if you pitch for us Alex? You only need one arm for that!
  • Are you sure? I don't think it's ever been done before
  • Slide: 9
  • The team's coach, Randy, arrives and is quick to project his outdated and bigoted notions on the team
  • You're right, it hasn't been done before! A kid missing an arm can't play baseball, and what's with the girls?? You can't play baseball any better than he can
  • Slide: 10
  • That's not true at all! The Yankees pitcher Jim Abbott was born without a right hand and he threw a no-hitter in the major leagues!
  • And I'm not a man either, I'm non-binary
  • Slide: 11
  • This league is gender inclusive! And you can't discriminate against someone just because they have a disability!
  • Do you have any idea who I am? My family donated that scoreboard to the team, and as long as it stays, so do I!
  • Slide: 12
  • I can... he made me want to quit sports back when baseball was still segregated in this town
  • I can't believe this guy!
  • Slide: 13
  • As Coach Randy crushes their spirits the gang leaves the baseball field in defeat. For Ella, this is not her first negative interaction with Randy, as last baseball season the coach questioned her gender identity repeatedly. He even went so far as to suggest the only reason Ella transitioned was so she could have an unfair advantage over cis girls on the team
  • Slide: 14
  • Why don't we just start our own team? All we need is a few extra players!
  • What are we supposed to do now? That was the only baseball team in town and now we can't even play
  • Slide: 15
  • Everyone go bring in at least one other person, and then we'll go meet Randy's team on the field
  • Slide: 16
  • That's a great idea!
  • Yeah! Let's do it!
  • Slide: 17
  • As the gang sets out to find some new team-mates, they must decide how to utilize everyone's athletic abilities to their maximum potential
  • Slide: 18
  • Alright, now that we've got enough people for a team, let's figure out what position everyone can play
  • On my old team I played catcher. I could throw out base runners so well that people thought I only transitioned to be the best in the girls' league...
  • Slide: 19
  • That's awful! You can be catcher in our league and I'll pitch!
  • Slide: 20
  • That's a great idea!
  • Yeah! But what do you girls think? Aren't you worried me being trans and my athletic ability will over-shadow your performances?
