- Despite Gina being diagnosed with SLOS a gene disorder that enables a lack of brain cell production. Niki did not give up and wanted to provide a well-rounded life for Gina especially in school. Niki wanted Gina to engage in socialization, peer interactions, and communication. Programs were also administered such as the Peer Buddy Program and Anti-Bullying.
- Gina's mother has continued to advocate for her daughter's rights to the point she even pursued her master's degree in special education! Gina now attends a public school at 18 years old with aids who continue to support her needs. Gina is an active member in her community and school. She is part of her choir, girl scouts, anti-bullying peer buddy club, and more!
- Through the support of Gina's school and essentially from her family. Gina is able to have both a rich experience in her family and in her school. Gina is a source of strength to her family and a gift to her aides. Schools should provide more facilities for children with disabilities to make a mark on the world like Gina has done!
