- Not long after.....
- On August 21, 1858, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglass ran against each other for a seat in the senate. They talked a lot about their opinions on slavery.
- I'm President now!

- Long story short, Stephen Douglass won against Lincoln in the Lincoln-Douglass debate of 1858.
- Ew wait Lincoln is President?
- A few years later, Lincoln was nominated by the Republican party and ran for president against Stephen Douglass in the election of 1860.

- This time, Lincoln won against Douglass. Lincoln became our 16th president and Southerners were not happy.
- Southerners thought that they were losing power in the government, and it was because none of the Southern states voted for Lincoln.
- Ew we didn't vote for him.
- South Carolina was extra mad about Lincoln's presidency and so they seceded from the Union. After South Carolina seceded, the states Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas all left aswell.
- I'm leaving, Lincoln is gross.
