- hello I am the principal of Central High School in Little Rock Arkansas. It is the year 1957 and this school is desegregated now because of Brown vs Board of Education
- These nine students were allowed to school now. The governor of Arkansas did not approve and used the national guard to stop them and the mob of angry white people also stopped them.
- On September 23rd, these nine students got into the school through the side door with the help of the police force but did not stay long because the students feared for their lives.
- On the 25th of September, President Dwight Eisenhower federalized the national guard and sent in the US Army troops. With the protection of the Army and National Guard, these nine finally began regular class attendance.
- This was significant for the civil rights movement because they were fighting for human rights and a big piece of that was education. This was a huge success for the movement and spread the movement.
- In November 1999, President Bill Clinton gave the Little Rock 9 the Congressional Gold Medal. That is the highest civilian award bestowed by congress.
