  • They're in a lorrie(a car).Paul was the first one to hear the gease.Kat has the ability to listen to the bombs and when he hears bombs he can tee when they are in war.A personified word in chapter 4 is world.Paul,peter,tjaden,and muller transported to the western front line in a truck.The men are going to get attcked at 10pm,kat is a knowldgeable soldier.The bombardment is partically disturbing for new recruits.They are in the cemetery and hit by shards that expose the graves.The men try to use trench warfare to svoid being hurt by the enemy.Paul looses his hearing but goes into another hole based on superstation so that the mottar wont land in the same place twice.The company is assigned to lay barbed wire,but they are caught in the bombardment almost immediately.Paul and other experianced soliders try to help the recruits cope with the bombardment including hiding under an exposed coffin in a bombed out graveyard.

  • Many horses were killed in the attack,which horrifies a sollider named detering.Kat and paul quietly decide to put the young man out of his mine of his mistery by shooting him,but a group of soliders arrive before they can do so.They put the wounded man on a stretcher and return to the lorries.To kat and Paul shooting the soldier isnt an act of further violence,but ine of mercy.On page 56 they act like human animals on Page 57 The horses are a big deal to detering.Detering is going to have a hard time with the horses.They put their cigars and pipes out because they can see the light.

  • While the explosions and bombs are going off the whole unit and paul are trying to build the fence.They're being attacked.A recruit with a fair head soiled his bridges(poops his pants).The horses have been hit.The horses are in apin and detering wants them to be shot.
