29 January 1840, Hobson arrives in New Zealand.Hobson was sent to New Zealand to be the governor of New Zealand and help make a treaty between the Maori and the English
After the English version of the treaty was written, Hobson asks missionary Henry Williams to translate the English draft version of the treaty into Maori. So, that night on the 4th of February 1840, Henry and his son translated the ENTIRE draft treaty into Maori.
The next day, on the 6th of February. The treaty was presented to the Maori chiefs. And the chiefs then went on to debate over the treaty that day and night.

The next day on the 7th, the signing of the treaty was starting. There was a long debate before anyone actually signed the treaty. The first chief to sign the treaty
Many copies of the treaty went to go around the whole of New Zealand. And on the 3rd of September 1840, the last few signatures were signed and the English returned home.
