This story takes place in a small village of only 300 people. It is a warm summer day in the pleasant, nourishing town. The villagers gather in the town square for the annual lottery drawing. Children are playing, making piles of stones, while the women gossip and the men congregate.

The main conflict of The Lottery is between Tessie Hutchinson and the rest of the town. Tessie objects to the lottery system, stating that it is unfair. The rest of the townspeople disagree with her, saying that everyone took the same chance.
FALLING ACTION
all the men come forward to draw slips of paper out of the black lottery box. As the family's names are called out of the box yelling from the crowd express for those drawing.
RESOLUTION
As a result of Bill Hutchinson drawing the paper, his entire family must participate in a second drawing. Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson and their three children draw more slips of paper out of the box. if one of them draw the black dot they will through rocks at them till they die.
Tessie protests that it isn't fair. The villagers don't care and begin throwing rocks at her.
