- I'm going to get rich and have any woman I want.
- Arévalo, Spain: 1507Ignatius wanted to be a courtier like his mentor, Don Juan Velásquez de Cuéllar. At the age of 16, Ignatius traveled to Velásquez's palace as a page and soon discovered his love for women, and wealth. For 11 years Ignatius learnt skills of administration, diplomacy, arms, and courtly manners. This would prepare him for a later life in administration and political intricacies.
- Battle of Pamplona: 1521At the age of 30 Ignatius was defending the fortress of the town of Pamplona. He was an officer/ soldier and he was fighting against the french. The Spanish were outnumbered and there was no hope for them, but Ignatius still kept his men fighting till the end. During the battle, a cannonball struck Ignatius on the leg, wounding him badly. Because the French had admired Ignatius's courage so much, the french soldiers took him back to his home in Loyola to recover.

- The Society of Jesus in Rome: 1539Ignatius, along with his two companions, Peter Faber and James Lainez, decided to go to Rome and place themselves at the disposal of the pope. When they met the pope he very happily put them all at work teaching the scripture, and how to be a preacher. During the 1539 lent, Ignatius asked all of his companions to come to Rome to discuss their future. After many days of discussion and prayer, they decided to form a community, with the permission of the pope, and this was how the society of Jesus was created.
