- In the early 1900s, Canada put up posters, put ads in newspapers, and had agents give speeches about the country to convince people to immigrate there. They were also giving away free land to farmers in the Prairie Provinces.
- I was thinking of moving myself and my family to Canada, since we know someone there. Would you and your family like to move with us?
- Hello Charles. Have you seen the advertisements for Canada? They are giving out land for free.
- Hello John. Yes, they are everywhere. In the newspaper, in pamphlets, there was even a booth about Canada at the fair.
- We leave in two weeks time. Are you going to come with us?
- Well, we don't have much money here, and we could get free land in Canada.
- When do you and your family leave?
- Yes.
- In two weeks time we are moving to Canada. There we will own lots of land.
- Also, there we will have a chance at a better future than what we have here.
- At the time, long-distance travel was done primarily by boat, and it took around 6 to 14 weeks to travel from Europe to Canada.
