  • Mr. Gutierrez, what is UDL and OER?
  • Using resources is an integral part of developing an effective Universal Design for Learning in the classroom. However, with funds becoming less available to schools, educators must find new and creative methods of making or sourcing helpful tools for learning. Open Educational Resources, also known as OER, are any low-cost or free materials that can be used for teaching, learning, or research. It is a way of sourcing necessary materials to assist in students learning processes.

  • Teachers use UDL because not all students learn in the same way and because we don't have every type of learner in a classroom, we need to find a way to make learning easy for everyone.
  • Teacher use OER because not every student will have the same economic means or advantages as the next. As a result, it's critical to look for resources that are both free and open in a number of different ways.
  • So teacher, why should we use them?

  • Accessiblity is key to a good education. Unfortunatly, not all students have the access or the means for educational supplimentary tools. Therefore, I will provide my students with access to free technology such as google doc, google slides, and storyboardthat. I will also source materials for the classroom such as, used books, magazines, and art tools for use when creating lesson support aides like storyboards.
