  • Like many children, he saved his pennies so . . .
  • . . . he could go to the candy store.
  • Milton didn't do well in school.
  • Milton had many apprenticeships, one after another and he always failed.
  • FAILURE!!! •borrowed $150 from his Aunt in 1876 to start a business •sold candy for a penny but sugar was very expensive •good candy maker, bad business man

  • Milton met a woman named Catherine Sweeney. Catherine went by "Kitty." They got married soon after they met.
  • Success •Milton started a caramel business and got his big break •a man from England liked his caramels & placed a big order •the business grew and grew
  • •in 1900 Milton sold the caramel business
  • BIGGEST SUCCESS!!!
  • •not only did he build a factory, he built a town around the chocolate factory
  • •started successful chocolate business
  • •he developed milk chocolate

  • Hershey Chocolate Shop
  • Milton & Kitty created the town of Hershey and a school for orphans as well as a medical center, schools, homes, an amusement park, golf courses, a zoo, and more. To this day the town continues to prosper and grow.
  • March 25, 1915 was the day Kitty Hershey Died.
  • October 13, 1945 was the day Milton Hershey Died.
